Only you know what’s right for your home, but we’ve provided some pointers so you know what to look for in in a new TV table.

Cable management holes

Cable management holes are great for keeping wires neat and out of the way.  Just make sure you’ve got enough of them!  Many of our units come with 1 or 2 cable holes depending on your requirements.

Corner units

Is your TV positioned in the corner of your lounge?  If so, a corner TV unit is tailored for you, shaped to make the best use of the space available.  Many of our designs are available as both a standard and corner TV cabinet.

Storage

There’s more than one kind of storage available, so it’s worth considering what will work for you.

  • Shelf compartments are the best place for your DVD players and consoles.  The more shelves you have, the more tech you can store.
  • A TV cabinet with doors or drawers allows you to keep DVDs, CDs and Blu-rays organised and conveniently positioned right next to the TV.
  • Glass TV cabinets are brilliant if you like knowing exactly what films you have on hand, since you can see the spines without even having to open the cabinet door.
  • If you’d prefer the kids to not notice their favourite DVD just before bedtime – or worse, the horror movie you just bought –maybe opt for drawers or opaque doors instead.

Materials

No need to worry about strength or stability – every TV cabinet in our selection is built to last – but if you want all the facts, look no further.

Here’s a rundown of the kinds of wooden TV cabinet we supply.

Reclaimed wood

reclaimed wooden TV unit is brilliant for a rough and ready look.  Wood expands and contracts in response to moisture in the air, and since reclaimed timber has been around for a while it’s done all the moving it will ever need to do.  This makes it super strong and less likely to split than new wood.

Oak

Oak is a heavy wood with a superb woodgrain, brought out beautifully by a clear lacquer finish.  This makes it a reliable, attractive and popular choice.  Check out our oak TV unit options here.

Pine

For darker wooden TV stands, pine’s a sound choice.  An excellent wood for staining, it’s available in a wide range of finishes.  It’s a deceptively light material, too, making it easier to manoeuvre.

Painted

We also supply painted TV cabinets.  A grey or white TV unit is a safe bet because it won’t clash with other colours.

Pick your style

Time to pick your style.  Which design features are right for you?

Modern retro

Modern retro styles may include features like sliding doors, recessed handles, angled legs or a plinth for a more defined shape.  Shape is everything in this style, so expect everything from sleek, sharp square edges to rounded sides to reverse bevel edges.  Drawers and doors have slab fronts and panelling is rare, creating a sense of simplicity.  The Shackleton 2 door lowboard is a good example of a modern retro TV unit.

Industrial

Industrial style units like the Halstein are often crafted from reclaimed wood and may include parts in other materials, like metal legs or even concrete tops.

Contemporary

Contemporary style units are generally painted with a lacquered top, perfect for a farmhouse style home.  They often have cup handles or door knobs in black or silver, though some have more ornate handles, like the swan neck drop handles on the Farnborough.  Designs like these may feature raised panels, tapered feet or a more intricate edge profile, like an ogee or cove edge.  Baskets might replace drawers for storage.  Breadboard ends aren’t uncommon, either.

Rustic

Rustic styles suit country homes and are often made from oak and oak veneers with a clear lacquer finish.  Designs commonly include a square leg and roundover edge profile to make them look chunky, as well as flat panel sides and doors for extra depth.  Breadboard ends may be used on these units, too, as seen on the Winchester extra large TV unit.

Modern

Finally, modern style cabinets have sharper, cleaner lines than rustic TV units and lack the frills of contemporary furniture.  Simple, classy handles like bar, bow and D designs are a popular feature, either in sleek black or smart silver.
