We have several styles, sizes and materials to choose from, as well as various types of storage.  Explore your options using our guide.

Type

Before buying, it’s best to consider what type of kitchen dresser is going to meet your requirements.  There are two main styles in our selection.

  • An open kitchen hutch has open shelving instead of obstructive cabinet doors.  This provides easier access to your items.
  • A glass fronted or glazed kitchen hutch includes glass doors which protect against dust, insects and condensation.  They can help prevent items from falling off your shelves.

Size

Many of our sideboard hutches come in large and small versions, so you don’t have to sacrifice space to get the look you’d like.

  • A large kitchen hutch has enough room to cover all the bases.  Not only can a larger model store more items, some can store larger items thanks to increased shelf room.  The drawback is that you’ll need lots of room for it and it may not be suitable for a smaller kitchen.
  • A small kitchen hutch may not have as more storage room inside, but it won’t take up half the kitchen and may be more than enough for those extra plates and pans you need a home for.  Some have fewer frills, too, giving them a simpler, cleaner look.

Materials

Our dressers are also available in different kinds of wood.

Oak

Oak is a popular choice of material.  In order to show off its naturally beautiful woodgrain, an oak dresser top is often found in a lacquered, oiled or waxed finish, but is also available in painted finishes for contemporary appeal or a farmhouse look.  It is a heavy but sturdier option.

Reclaimed wood

Reclaimed wood has plenty of history behind it but is also hardwearing.  Wood expands and contracts in response to moisture in the air, and since reclaimed wood has been around longer, it has expanded and contracted a lot over its lifetime.  As such, it won’t move as much as new wood and is therefore less likely to split.  The Chalcot is a fine example of a reclaimed kitchen dresser top.

Pine

Pine is a lighter, more cost effective wood that can be found either stained or with a natural yellow finish.

Types of storage

Storage is the main purpose of your sideboard hutch.  The type of storage that’s best for you depends on what you’re hoping to store.

  • A dresser top with shelf compartments or shorter shelves may be more practical for storing smaller items tidy.  It’s easier to prop them up in a narrower space, and they are less likely to fall off, fall over or get lost amongst your other items.
  • If you’re hoping to store larger items then full length shelves might be the answer.  These provide plenty of room for keeping pots and pans or stacking crockery.
  • A kitchen hutch with mini drawers is a great place for keeping smaller ingredients and useful odds and ends, such as spice jars, keys, sticky notes and recipe cards.  The Chalcot wide dresser top, Carolina painted open hutch and Winchester oak large hutch all include this natty feature.
  • If you’d rather have something straightforward without too many bells and whistles, a simple but elegant design like the Farnborough grey sideboard top may be exactly what you’re looking for.
